7.6 Summary:
Mt. Vernon Senior High School provides many opportunities for evaluation, improvement, and documentation for student achievement. For example, students are
required to take the NWEA test each semester, English and Algebra classes are required to take the End of course assessment test, and collaborative classes
have again been implemented in the curriculum. In addition, professional development for faculty, staff, and student improvement efforts are demonstrated through documented evidence and found in the assessed summations.

  • Faculty reviews and revises the school mission statement and the high school mission statement.
  • Faculty has written vision and purpose statements
  • School Improvement Team (SIT) meets regularly to evaluate and suggest areas of improvement. SIT consists of faculty, staff, students, parents, and administration.

  • ISTEP+ scores and growth data are available in print and online
  • End of course assesment testing is given at different levels. Scores are analyzed and reviewed.
  • Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) Report analyzed and plans for improvement discussed
  • NWEA test scores used to evaluate students in Language Arts
  • Individualized instruction and testing achieved from APEX software
  • School offers the PSAT, ACT, and SAT for students and evaluates scores and data
  • Evaluated and put in place everyday Algebra and which resulted in higher scores and implemented everyday English in the 2011-2012 school year
  • Established collaborative classes to improve student achievement in English, math, history, and biology.

  • School evaluated high interest in the arts and establised the Fine Arts Academy in the 2011-2012 school year
  • Created writing across the curriculum, documenting student writing required in all classes. Students are currently using Criterion software to complete writing prompts
